Festival in Prague to Offer European Solutions for Affordable Housing

The Prague EUNIC cluster (European Union National Institutes for Culture) will present the first edition of the EUNIC Imagine Festival with the subtitle „Urban Regeneration“ on November 3-4, 2025. The two-day international conference will focus on urban regeneration and connect architects, urban planners, public sector representatives, and other experts from across Europe with Czech partners.
Current Challenges of European Cities
The festival responds to fundamental problems of contemporary European cities – growing housing unaffordability, impacts of climate change on public spaces, and demographic changes that place ever-new demands on shared space. The purpose of the event is to open international dialogue and seek concrete solutions. The event is organized by EUNIC Prague, a network of European cultural institutes operating in the Czech Republic, which has long connected cultural and educational institutions across Europe and creates space for sharing experiences and forming new partnerships. „The EUNIC Imagine Festival is our opportunity to show that even complex topics like urban regeneration can be solved together and with a positive vision,“ says Denise Quistorp, chairwoman of EUNIC Prague from the Austrian Cultural Forum. The festival’s professional curator is architect Kateřina Eklová, co-founder of Rethink Architecture. „We’ve invited 15 inspiring experts to Prague – architects, landscape architects, artists, and also city representatives. Each of them will explain how they managed to implement affordable housing projects or public space revitalization. Festival visitors will leave with a recipe for how they can implement similar projects in their own cities,“ adds Kateřina Eklová..
Program at CAMP and Four Prague Venues
The festival’s first day will take place at CAMP – Centre for Architecture and Urban Planning. It will open with a lecture by architect Ondřej Chybík from the CHYBIK + KRISTOF studio on sustainable urban futures. „I’m delighted to participate in the first edition of the EUNIC Imagine festival in Prague. The topic of urban regeneration is more than a planning issue for me – it’s the search for a new balance between past and future. In our studio, we call this approach Creative Reuse of Cities, and its transformation lies in the sensitive rediscovery of values that cities carry within them,“ states Chybík.
Panel discussions on public space quality, affordable housing, and specific European projects will follow. On the second day, the program will expand to four architecturally interesting locations in the heart of Prague – the Goethe Institute, Austrian Cultural Forum, Italian Cultural Institute, and Swedish Embassy, where workshops and round tables with limited capacity will take place. International Guests and Expert Topics
The festival focuses on two key areas: public spaces and affordable housing. Discussions will center on inclusive and resilient urban design, municipal investment strategies, cultural interventions, and community engagement. In the housing area, there will be discussion of architectural designs, financing, and participatory processes. Experts from fifteen European countries will come to Prague, including Xavi Matilla, former chief architect of Barcelona and author of the Superblock program, Rüdiger Engel, project manager of the climate-neutral Freiburg-Dietenbach district, and Benjamin Panchout from the Parisian company RATP. Małgorzata Kuciewicz and Simone De Iacobis from CENTRALA studio will bring inspiration about connecting architecture with natural processes from Warsaw. From Rome will come Massimo Alvisi and Junko Kirimoto from Alvisi Kirimoto studio, which connects Italian and Japanese architectural traditions. A list of all speakers can be found here.

The festival is organized by the Prague EUNIC cluster. The main partner is the Prague Institute of Planning and Development (IPR Prague), the Czech Chamber of Architects has taken patronage over the event, and the professional partner is Rethink Architecture.
Practical Information
The EUNIC Imagine Festival takes place November 3-4, 2025 in Prague. Monday’s program will be held at CAMP in English with Czech interpretation, Tuesday’s program at partner institutions in English. Entry is free, registration takes place through GoOut.

Pražský klastr EUNIC (Evropské národní kulturní instituty) uvede 3. a 4. listopadu 2025 první ročník EUNIC Imagine Festival s podtitulem Regenerace měst. Dvoudenní mezinárodní konference se zaměří na téma regenerace měst a propojí architekty, urbanisty, představitele veřejného sektoru i další odborníky z celé Evropy s českými partnery.
Aktuální výzvy evropských měst
Festival reaguje na zásadní problémy současných evropských měst – rostoucí nedostupnost bydlení, dopady klimatické změny na veřejná prostranství i demografické proměny, které kladou stále nové nároky na sdílený prostor. Smyslem akce je otevřít mezinárodní dialog a hledat konkrétní řešení. Organizátorem akce je EUNIC Praha, síť evropských kulturních institutů působících v České republice, která dlouhodobě propojuje kulturní a vzdělávací instituce napříč Evropou a vytváří prostor pro sdílení zkušeností i vznik nových partnerství. „Festival EUNIC Imagine je naší příležitostí ukázat, že i složitá témata, jako je regenerace měst, mohou být řešena společně a s pozitivní vizí,“ říká Denise Quistorp, předsedkyně EUNIC Praha z Rakouského kulturního fóra. Odbornou kurátorkou festivalu je architektka Kateřina Eklová, spoluzakladatelka Rethink Architecture. „Do Prahy jsme pozvali 15 inspirativních odborníků a odbornic – architekti, krajinářští architekti, umělci a také zástupci měst. Každý z nich vysvětlí, jak se jim podařilo uskutečnit projekt dostupného bydlení, nebo revitalizaci veřejného prostoru. Návštěvníci festivalu tak odejdou s receptem, jak mohou podobný projekt zrealizovat i u nich ve městě,“ doplňuje Kateřina Eklová.
Program v CAMP a na čtyřech pražských adresách
První den festivalu proběhne v CAMP – Centru architektury a městského plánování. Zahájí jej přednáška architekta Ondřeje Chybíka z ateliéru CHYBIK + KRISTOF o udržitelné budoucnosti měst. „Mám radost, že se mohu zúčastnit prvního ročníku festivalu EUNIC Imagine v Praze. Téma regenerace měst je pro mě více než otázkou plánování, je to hledání nové rovnováhy mezi minulostí a budoucností. V našem ateliéru tento přístup označujeme jako Creative Reuse of Cities a jeho transformace spočívá v citlivém znovuobjevování hodnot, jež v sobě nese,“ tvrdí Chybík.
Následovat budou panelové diskuse na téma kvality veřejného prostoru, dostupného bydlení a konkrétních evropských projektů. Druhý den se program rozšíří do čtyř architektonicky zajímavých míst v srdci Prahy – Goethe-Institutu, Rakouského kulturního fóra, Italského kulturního institutu a Velvyslanectví Švédska, kde se uskuteční workshopy a kulaté stoly s omezenou kapacitou. Mezinárodní hosté a odborná témata
Festival se soustředí na dvě klíčové oblasti: veřejná prostranství a dostupné bydlení. Diskuse se zaměří na inkluzivní a odolný design měst, investiční strategie obcí, kulturní intervence a zapojení komunit. V oblasti bydlení bude řeč o architektonických návrzích, financování i participativních procesech. Do Prahy přijedou odborníci z patnácti evropských zemí, mezi nimi Xavi Matilla, bývalý hlavní architekt Barcelony a autor programu Superblock, Rüdiger Engel, projektový manažer klimaticky neutrální čtvrti Freiburg-Dietenbach, či Benjamin Panchout z pařížské společnosti RATP. Inspiraci o propojení architektury s přírodními procesy z Varšavy přivezou Małgorzata Kuciewicz a Simone De Iacobis ze studia CENTRALA. Festival EUNIC Imagine Festival se koná 3. a 4. listopadu 2025 v Praze. Pondělní program proběhne v CAMP v angličtině s tlumočením do češtiny, úterní program na partnerských institucích v angličtině. Vstup je zdarma, registrace probíhá přes GoOut.
