Rueland Frueauf the Elder and his Circle
Vienna 8. November 2017
This sensational exhibition centres on the Late Gothic painter Rueland Frueauf the Elder (died 1507, Passau) and his son Rueland Frueauf the Younger. For the first time in history, works by father and son are appearing together in an exhibition. This was made possible by the generous loans from Klosterneuburg Monastery. Frueauf the Elder’s eight altarpiece paintings of 1490/91 from the Belvedere’s collection are masterpieces of Late Gothic painting. They have been painstakingly restored in recent years and the stunning results are revealed in this exhibition. Also featuring a selection of works by the Master of Grossgmain, distinguished by their exquisite technique, the show offers a unique insight into the fascinating work of the Frueauf circle.
The exhibition is on display at Upper Belvedere until 11 March 2018
